Cardzgroup Adopts ProofScene Interactive 3D Print Proofs for Smart Card and RFID Orders

Cardzgroup now sends clients an interactive 3D proof alongside the flat proof sheet for its PVC cards, smart cards and RFID products, using ProofScene, the 3D print proofing platform. Our clients open a secure link, turn their card, key fob or wristband in any web browser, check the front, the back and every finish, and approve the artwork with a clear picture of what will arrive. Since we introduced 3D proofs, the response from clients around the world has been outstanding.

Key facts

  • What: Cardzgroup clients can now review an interactive 3D proof of their order alongside the flat proof sheet.
  • Platform: ProofScene, a 3D print proofing platform that builds the 3D proof from the factory proof sheet.
  • Products: PVC cards, contact and contactless smart cards, bank cards, SIM cards, scratch cards, key fobs and wristbands.
  • For clients: a secure link that opens in any browser, with no software or account.
  • Approval: the PDF proof sheet remains the approval document.

Why we added 3D proofs to our proofing process

Because a card is a physical object, and the people who approve it are rarely card specialists. Every Cardzgroup order starts with a proof sheet: the front and back artwork, the die line, the chip, the magnetic stripe, the personalization fields and a full specification. It is precise, and it remains the document our clients sign off. But a flat proof asks the reader to imagine the finished product, and the people approving a payment card, a transit card or a loyalty key tag are usually a brand manager, a program manager and a procurement team, often in different countries.

Each of them has to picture things that a flat page cannot show:

  • how holographic foil, metallic inks and raised UV catch the light as the card moves;
  • where the contact chip, the contactless antenna and the magnetic stripe sit in the finished card;
  • what the back looks like, with its signature panel, personalization and fine print;
  • how a key fob or a silicone wristband wraps the same design around a three-dimensional object.

A detail that surprises a client after production means a reprint of thousands, sometimes hundreds of thousands, of cards. The clearer the proof, the safer the order. That is why we now send a 3D proof with the flat proof.

What is ProofScene?

ProofScene is 3D print proofing software for card manufacturers, print shops and packaging converters. It reads the proof sheet a factory already prepares and turns the flat PDF proof sheet into an interactive 3D proof of the finished product, published on a branded link the client opens in any modern browser, with no app, plug-in or account.

For a card manufacturer like Cardzgroup, the important part is what the engine understands. ProofScene builds cards in PVC, PET and wood with foils including holographic, raised or flat UV, metallic inks, holograms, magnetic stripes, signature and scratch-off panels, laser engraving, thermal and inkjet personalization, embossing with gold or silver tipping, nine lamination finishes from mirror gloss to frosted, and 6- and 8-contact chips in gold or silver. An X-ray view shows the RFID or NFC antenna and chip sealed inside the card. The same platform builds crystal and silicone key fobs, SIM punch-out cards, card carriers, silicone and fabric wristbands, and lanyards.

Each proof says who prepared it, and each link can carry its own password, so every client sees only their own artwork.

How a Cardzgroup 3D proof works

We kept the proofing process our clients know and added one link to it:

  1. Our prepress team prepares the proof sheet as always, with the artwork, die line and specification for the order.
  2. The sheet is uploaded to Cardzgroup's ProofScene workspace, where the 3D Proof Studio reads the artwork, the finishes and the specification and builds the product in 3D.
  3. We check the 3D build against the proof sheet and correct anything that needs it before the client sees it.
  4. The proof is published on our own address, cardzgroup.proofscene.com, under its proof code and with an optional password.
  5. The client receives both: the PDF proof sheet, which remains the approval document, and the 3D link.
  6. The client approves, and production starts. The link keeps showing exactly the build the client reviewed.

Colors on screen are approximations, as with any digital proof. For color-critical work, the physical color standard and printed samples still apply.

Which Cardzgroup products we proof in 3D

The 3D proofs cover our core product lines. ProofScene describes its 3D proofs for smart cards and RFID credentials in detail; this is what they mean for our clients:

  • PVC cards: loyalty, gift, membership and ID cards, with the lamination finish, foils, spot UV and personalization shown as they will look.
  • Contactless smart cards: transit, access and campus cards, with an X-ray view of the antenna and chip inside.
  • Contact smart cards and bank cards: the chip plate at its ISO position in gold or silver, the magnetic stripe, the signature panel, embossing and the hologram.
  • SIM cards: the full-size carrier with its punch-out SIM.
  • Scratch cards: the scratch-off panel and the variable data beneath it.
  • Smart tokens and bands: crystal and silicone key fobs and silicone wristbands, turned in the hand rather than unrolled on a page.

Cards and RFID wearables in 3D: a contactless card and a crystal payment key fob. Both brands are fictional demo designs.

Why 3D proofs matter most for key fobs and payment wearables

Because a wearable is never seen flat. A silicone wristband is a loop, a crystal key fob is a domed block of epoxy over a printed insert, and a card carrier folds around the card it holds. On a flat proof sheet each of these is drawn as an unrolled shape, and the client has to work out where the logo will sit once the band is closed, how the dome changes the artwork underneath it, or which panel faces up when the carrier opens.

Payment wearables raise the stakes further. The contactless chip and antenna have to sit where the reader expects them, the brand marks of the scheme and the issuer have to be legible at a small size, and a festival, stadium or transit operator may be ordering tens of thousands of pieces for a single event. In 3D the client can turn the fob or band exactly as a wearer will, see the artwork on every face, and check the X-ray view of what sits inside, before a single piece is made.

What it means for distributors and integrators

Many of our clients are not the final card issuer. They are distributors, system integrators and resellers who present our cards to banks, transport operators, retailers and governments in their own markets. A 3D proof link travels well: it can be forwarded to the end customer, opened in a meeting on a phone or a laptop, and understood without a card specialist in the room.

That shortens the conversation between our partner and their customer, and it lets our partners present a Cardzgroup order with the same clarity whether they are selling across the street or across the world.

What our clients see when they open a proof

They see their own product, built from their own proof sheet, under realistic light. On a Cardzgroup 3D proof link a client can:

  • turn the card over and zoom in on the chip, the hologram or the fine print;
  • watch foil, metallic ink and raised UV catch the light as the card moves;
  • switch to the X-ray view to see the antenna and chip inside a contactless card;
  • see the chosen gloss, matte or frosted lamination under realistic light;
  • open the specification and the original proof sheet without leaving the page;
  • forward the same link to every colleague who needs to sign off, wherever they are.

You can try it yourself: ProofScene's live 3D demo has sample cards, key fobs and wristbands to turn in the browser.

The response from our clients

Since we began sending 3D proofs, the feedback from clients in our markets around the world has been outstanding. Clients have welcomed a proof that is easier to understand and easier to share with the colleagues who sign it off. Questions that used to need a round of emails, such as how the foil will look or what the back of the card shows, are now answered by turning the card on screen. For distributors who resell our cards, the 3D link is something they can pass straight to their own customers.

For Cardzgroup, it means fewer surprises after production and clients who approve with confidence.

Frequently asked questions

What is a 3D print proof?

A 3D print proof is an interactive 3D model of the finished printed product, built from the proof sheet, that the client can turn and inspect in a web browser before production. It shows materials, finishes and the placement of every element in a way a flat proof cannot.

Does the 3D proof replace the flat proof sheet?

No. The flat PDF proof sheet remains the approval document. The 3D proof sits beside it so everyone who signs off can see the finished product, and colors on screen remain approximations.

Do clients need special software to open a 3D proof?

No. A Cardzgroup 3D proof opens in any modern web browser on a computer, tablet or phone, with no app, plug-in or account.

Which Cardzgroup products come with a 3D proof?

PVC cards, contact and contactless smart cards, bank cards, SIM cards, scratch cards, key fobs and wristbands, the product lines on our products page.

How do I get a quote and a 3D proof for my order?

Email sales@cardzgroup.com with your product, quantity and artwork. Our team will reply with a quotation and, once the artwork is ready, your proof sheet and 3D proof.
